What Makes Host Bars and Open Bars Different?

A bar is a perfect place to have your favorite drinks, celebrate your happy moments, and organize professional events. However, while deciding to arrange the event at your favorite bar, there’s always confusion between host bars and open bars. So, to make it clear, here are the differences between both:

  • Host Bars: In a host bar, you will be charged on the basis of net alcohol consumption by you. Here, it’s important to note that every bar prefers different ways of measuring the alcohol amount. Like, some bars might charge you on a per-drink basis while others might measure the alcohol bottles at the end to compute the net consumption.
  • Open Bars: In an open bar, being a host of the event, you have to pay on an hourly basis. The hourly rates will also include the bartender’s fees, depending on the guest list. This means for a specific period of time (say 1 or 2 hours), your guests will be served with unlimited drinks.

Still wondering which is better? Here are some points to help you out:

  • Type of Event: If you are holding an annual company holiday party or other corporate events, then the host bar is a good option. This is because the guests are not expected to drink much as corporate events reflect a formal approach. On the other hand, if it is a wedding party or any other casual gathering, then an open bar is recommended as it will limit your alcohol bills, even if your guests want to have more.
  • Guest List: Make sure you consider your guest list before giving a green signal to an open or a host bar. If your guest list includes a majority of people who don’t drink, then the host bar is a better choice. However, if your guests are big drinkers, paying per hour fee for unlimited drinks is a cost-effective option.
  • Time of Day and Year: Choosing an open bar or host bar also depends on the time of day and year. People tend to drink more in the evening than in the afternoon or morning. Also, drinkers are likely to drink more in cold weather conditions as compared to warm weather. So one should make the bar choice accordingly.

So when choosing a bar, take everything into consideration. Having said this, spots like Brutopia Bar are known for their best serves, delicious bites, and the best event planning.
