In this article, we will talk about some of the most palatable recipes of Japanese Donburi rice bowls (ข้าว ดง บุ ริ, which is the term in Thai). Being the quintessential comfort meal of Japan, the bowl in which they serve the dish is referred to as Donburi. The typical Donburi is a bowl full of steamed and fluffy rice topped with seafood or meat, and vegetable altogether. From the sauce and veggies to the protein and grains, the wholesome components of a Donburi rice bowl are an ideal dish to cook at home.

  1. Baked Katsudon

Baked Katsudon is a recipe of runny eggs and deep-fried juicy pork cutlet that is cooked in a sweet and savoury dashi broth and placed over the streamed hot rice. This may as well turn into your favorite meal on a weekend.

  1. Yoshinoya Beef Bowl

Another keeper for a weekend meal is Yoshinoya Beef Bowl; juicy and delicious beef sliced up and served over steamed rice. This is a steamed rice bowl with tender onion and thinly sliced beef as the topping. The dish is simmered in a sweet dashi broth with mirin and soy sauce seasoning.

  1. Poke Bowl

Popular across the United States, Poke Bowl is the soul food of Hawaii. The bowl of raw fish salad is highly impacted by Japanese cuisine. It is one of those dishes which we wish to eat more than once, especially since the toppings can be adapted to people’s preferences.

  1. Grilled Eel Rice Bowl – Unadon

Japan’s Unagi dish is a mouth-watering combination of sweet caramelized sauce and warm rice over the perfectly grilled eel. For a minimal effort to making unagi, one can purchase the vacuum-packed pre-grilled ones.

  1. Nirupama Donburi

The extra-comforting and homey Niratama Donburi rice bowls are hot rice served with garlic chives and soft fluffy egg stir fry served over it. The simple dish is defined by its unique flavor of garlic chives. Asian produce markets or the local Asian grocery stores sell these Chinese chives – the flat-shaped, deep green garlic chives.

Apart from these five recipes, you can explore the Chicken and Egg rice bowl also known as Oyakodon, Salmon Ikura Don, Ground Chicken Bowl of Soboro Don, Mapo Tofu, Tempura Donburi or Ten Don, Chicken Katsudon, and the Beef Bowl, which is popularly known as Gyudon. Whether it is a family meal or a weeknight dinner, there is nothing better than delicious Donburi rice bowls.
